First, may I say that you look lovely today. Seriously.
Four years ago I started #TeamKatia when I "hit the bottom" with a massive weight gain, and started blogging about it on Tumblr. If you've followed me since (or before then) I thank you. If you're new, have a seat. Do you prefer coffee or tea?

Let's get right to the part that most who know me, don't even know about me. I was bullied so bad that I had my first eating disorder (ED) in grade school, which I kept secret until my 20's. Okay. Wow. This just got really real. I always knew that I had an eating disorder, but it wasn't "real" because I was never skinny. (That is what we call denial.) My ED varied from food restriction, binging/purging, and well, we'll get to the others later. I was in college when I learned of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), and how common it is among those suffering with an ED. Please note that this is a recovery positive blog. I will do my best to put a note of a possible trigger warning before any such content. ​

​Four years ago I impulsively signed up for a half marathon. I wasn't a runner. I had friends who were runners. I cheered everyone running the Chicago Marathon. I poured out positivity for everyone...except myself. That half marathon lead me to many more, and currently three full marathons (2 Chicago, 1 New York).  After a year of running, I started to focus on the food I was putting into my body, and trying to understand the science behind it. I did a month long clean eating challenge, and I felt amazing! Since then I've (tried to) balanced an 80/20 lifestyle.

PictureInspired by my friend Jaclyn, my second challenge was The Brooklyn Half Marathon in 2014.

Now, in my 30's I am my happiest (and more importantly, healthiest) self. It has taken a very long time to be able to say that. With a focus on overall wellness, I hope to continue to inspire my followers. Whether you're here for a recipe, fitness tips, or want to know why I drink collagen and Apple Cider Vinegar every day, I hope you find Balancing Kat welcoming. Life is all about balance. Balancing work, fitness, love, friendships - it's all hard. We are human, we are allowed to fall out of balance, and we are allowed to beam with excitement when we have found balance. I'm here to continue to give you the ups, downs, hardships & successes of learning to balance life. 

Moving platforms, and creating Balancing Kat has been a big decision in the works for sometime. Thank you to the  handful of amazing friends who have  encouraged me to be brave, and lean in.
